Following completion of the BSE Inquiry in October 2000, the Department of Health established the CJD Advice Network.
The Advice Network comprises a number of professionals with direct experience of caring for someone with CJD, or who have had involvement in research into CJD.
Members of the network are available via telephone contact to share their knowledge and experiences and provide invaluable advice to those professionals presently caring for someone with this rapidly progressive and debilitating disease. The aim of the network is to ensure that best practice is shared, hopefully resulting in the delivery of a high standard of care for those affected and their families.
Professionals involved in the network include general practitioners, district nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, physiotherapists, nurse specialists, counsellors, speech and language therapists, dentists and charity representatives.
Access to the network is available through the National Care Co-Ordinators, THe National Prion Unit, The Human BSE Foundation and the CJD Support Network.
